The planting of the Derek tree

March 6, 2009 was the third anniversary of the passing of our sweet Derek. We started a tradition in South Carolina of planting a Derek tree at each home we live in. We have chosen a little gem magnolia for both homes. Since we moved to the south, we have fallen in love with these trees. The have waxy leaves with a furry texture underneath. They produce beautiful white flowers during the summer and never lose their leaves. Rick and Esther came over and we all helped plant the tree in Derek's memory. It was a very windy morning, as you can probably tell, by everyone's wind blown hair, but we had a great time. Derek would want lots of pictures, so here you go!
